Soft Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter; softened1 ½ cups granulated sugar3 eggs1 tsp vanilla 3 ½ cups flour2 tsp cream of tartar1 tsp baking soda½ tsp saltIcing1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar¼ cup softened unsalted butter1 ½ -2 Tbsp milk½ tsp vanillaFood coloring
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375 Degrees. Cream the butter until smooth. Add the sugar gradually and beat until light and fluffy.

2. Add eggs one at a time mixing well after each addition.

3. Add vanilla. Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

4. Cover and chill dough for at least 1 hour.

5. Roll dough onto floured surface to ¼ inch thick. Cut dough with cookie cutter(s) and place on non-stick baking sheet.

6. Bake for about 6-8 minutes or until cookie bottom has a golden appearance and cookie looks poofy.

7. To make Icing, in a large bowl cream together sugar and butter until smooth.

8. Add vanilla and beat well. Gradually add milk until smooth and stiff, about 5 minutes.

9. Color with food coloring and spread over cooled sugar cookies. Allow 1 hour to dry once spread on cookies.
