Ingredients Nonstick cooking spray 4 tablespoons Sugar-Free Maple Syrup, like Maple Grove Farms ½ cup reduced sugar orange juice, like Tropicana 50 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1, 8 - ounce package pitted whole dates, snipped 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour ½ cup almond meal ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats, dry- 1/2 cup sliced almonds ½ teaspoon baking soda Ό teaspoon baking powder Ό cup unsweetened applesauce 4 tablespoons Sugar-Free Maple Syrup, like Maple Grove Farms 3 egg whites 1 tablespoon olive or cooking oil
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Take a 13x9x2-inch baking pan and lightly coat with cooking spray; set aside.
2. In a small bowl, combine the first four tablespoons of sugar free maple syrup, reduced sugar orange juice and lemon juice. Stir in the dates; set aside.
3. Combine the flour, soda, and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. In a third mixing bowl, combine applesauce, remaining sugar free syrup, egg whites, and oil. Add applesauce mixture to the flour mixture. Beat with an electric mixer, or hand mix until just combined (mixture will be crumbly). Stir in date mixture. Spoon batter in the prepared baking pan; press evenly into pan with spatula or the back of the spoon.
4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cut into 24 bars. Remove bars from pan with spatula. Cool bars on a wire rack. Makes 24 bars.
