Armenian Pilaf

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups buckwheat groats (kasha)1 med oion chopped2 cloves garlic, minced1 tablespoon olive oil2 cups low sodium chicken broth1/4 cup slivered almonds1 can garbanzo beans - rinsed and drained2 tablespoons lemon juice1/2 teaspoon cinnamon1/4 teaspoon cardamon1/2 teaspoon allspice1/4 teaspoon ground ginger1/4 teaspoon pepper1/3 cup raisinssour cream (optional)
Saute onion and garlic in olive oil until soft in a heavy deep skillet..
Add all remaining ingredients except the sour cream.
Bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook until liquid is absorbed. You may need to add additional liquid if the buckwheat is still too hard.
Top with sour cream if desired.
