Beans, black, 1.75 cupTomato Paste, 0.25 cupGarlic, 3 clovesPeppers, sweet, red, raw, sliced, 0.5 cupGranulated Sugar, 2 tbspLime Juice, .25 cupOnions, raw, 1 cup, choppedWater, tap, 1 cup (8 fl oz)Salt, 1 tbsp cumin, 1 tbsp
Directions
chop pepper and onions. open cans, measure paste, peel garlic cloves, and get a bay leaf. Toss everything in a pot and simmer for 20 minutes or as long as you can stand it.

    skip the salt
    this may defeat the "cuban"-ness of the recipe, but add cilantro and taco meat seasonings. More of a mexican beans, perhaps :) - 10/29/10
