Linguine with Spicy Shrimp Sauce

1/3 C olive oil1 lg onion, chopped1/4 C chopped parsley1/2 tsp red pepper flakes1 (28 oz) can Italian tomatoes, chopped with their juice1 tsp sugar1 tsp salt3 tsp minced garlic1/4 tsp ground pepper1 lb bite-size shrimp, shelled, deveined1 lb linquine noodles
In saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and saute' until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in parsley, garlic, red pepper flakes, tomatoes with ther juice, sugar, salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low; cook 20 minutes or until sauce is thickened, stirring occasionally. Stir in shrimp; cook until shrimp turns pink, about 3 minutes. Meanwhile cook pasta according to package directions, transfer to a warm serving bowl. Add sauce, toss well.

This was very good! I used to make something just like this. The only difference was, I use to use basil instead of parsley. I think it adds more flavor. Thanks for the recipe reminder & nutritional info! - 3/24/09

Thanks! We love it. I'll try it with the basil next time. I don't know how my DH will like it as this is a tried and true recipe for our family but I love basil!!
