Ingredients
1 small onion, chopped3-4 garlic cloves, minced 1 (28 oz.) can diced tomatoes 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste 2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce 1 cup water (for simmering, I simmer for about 1 hour, adjust the amount of water for less simmering time) 2 teaspoons basil1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon onion powder1 teaspoon dried oregano1/4 teaspoon ground thyme 2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes 1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar 1/8-1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (Depending on taste)1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup red wine (I use a good quality Cabernet)
Directions
Serves 8
(Serving Size = 3/4 Cup Servings)

Cook onions in stockpot on medium heat, stirring occasionally until onions are softened.

Add garlic and crushed red pepper. Cook until garlic is soft. Be careful not to brown.

Add tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water.

Add oregano, thyme, basil, parsley, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and salt.

Stir well. Do not bring sauce to a boil.

Stir in red wine.

Reduce medium heat to low. Simmer on low, stirring frequently for about an hour.

Enjoy!

This sauce freezes nicely. I sometimes make this sauce and freeze it for other dishes I enjoy making. I have a turkey meatball recipe listed on this web site that goes well with this recipe. I recently added a Baked Ziti and Eggplant Lasagna recipe that also uses this sauce in it.

I thought this sauce was good, but nothing special. I thought it tasted like your average run of the mill tomato sauce. I will say though, that I am picky about my sauces. I think it needs the quantities of the spices increased to add more flavor. - 8/8/11

This is super good! I used a can of tomato soup in place of one of the cans of paste because its what I had in my kitchen. The flavors are amazing!!!!!! - 5/1/10

absolutely wonderful. Beats any other homemade sauce I've tried!!! Wonderful flavor. I did add an additional teaspoon of italian seasoning because I didn't have any thyme and not enough basil! - 4/15/10

WOW! Fantastic. Both the hubby & I loved it. I did add mushrooms, beef, peppers, and Parmesan but it was the sauce that had all the flavor. Wish I could eat more!! - 7/2/12

Absolutely awesome even though I forgot the brown sugar and I added a little more Cabernet because I needed to use it up. I froze the leftover sauce so I can use it again - 5/19/17

This is so easy to stir together and is delicious. I will be making this as my go-to spaghetti sauce from now on. I used my own canned tomatoes but I did use the purchased tomato paste. I loved how nice and thick this sauce is. I followed the recipe as given. - 4/24/14

I haven't made this recipe, but have made Jo Mama's without the meat. My question is about the nutritional info listed above. What is the source of protein? If this has six servings, that would be 35.4 grams of protein in the entire batch. From what? If I'm missing something, please let me know. - 3/19/13

We loved this sauce. My son is picky about spaghetti sauce, does not like any store bought sauce, and he LOVED this. - 10/25/12
