A good substitute for deer meat is buffalo meat- it is a low fat option for beef as well and adds great flavor to this meal! - 5/22/09

It's just not something easy to find around where I live, but I do like buffalo (actually better than beef) as it's not greasy. We used deer meat because my friend's husband had a lot of it left over as gifts from processing deer for people.

My husband loves it! He actually takes the leftovers with him to work and his fellow coworkers now wish I cooked everyday like this--large!

What is Rotel ? This recipe sounds delicious and I would love to make it but I don't know what this ingredient is. - 5/2/09

Yes. Sorry. Guess I should have clarified. RoTel is a brand of diced tomatoes with diced green chilies. There is mild, regular, hot, chunky etc. Down in Southeast Texas it's a staple food. I never go without having it on hand. Great for seasoning meats for quick dishes
