Spicy Tomato Basil Sauce

Ingredients
1 T butter or soy margarine (for vegan version)1 T olive oil1 medium onion, chopped1 bell pepper, chopped8oz sliced button mushrooms2 cloves garlic, finely minced1 tsp vegetable broth concentrate or 1 bullion cube1/2 cup water 2 15oz cans organic diced tomatoes1 6oz can tomato paste4 T white cooking wine1 1/2 tsp cinnamon1 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper2 tsp italian seasoningsea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste1 large bunch of fresh basil, chopped
Directions
Heat oil and butter in medium, heavy-bottomed saute pot on medium high heat. Add onion, bell pepper and mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes; add garlic, broth concentrate and water. Reduce heat to medium, add tomatoes, tomato paste, white wine and spices, continuing to cook for about 10 minutes. Season to taste. Just before serving, add basil and toss with pasta or gnocchi.
