I make a taco seasoning similar to this, and use it in chili, enchiladas, etc. To your recipe above I add 2 tsp. cocoa powder, 2 tsp granulated garlic, 1 tsp. adobo seasoning (which contains some salt). You can also add smoked chili powder (chipotle) if you like a little hotter and spicier. - 11/2/09

If you make this and are going totally salt free, be sure to check the label of the chili powder. Some contain salt, since commercial chili powders, like curry powder, are a combination of spices. - 11/2/09

Spicy, Spicy, Spicy! Good for a no-salt version, though! For anyone asking, I used this is crockpot salsa chicken which calls for 1/2 package. This recipe was enough to season the entire pot. - 11/2/09

I've used something very similar to this for several years. Our recipe just adds 1 tsp. of oregano. This is so simple I don't even mix it, but just add the ingredients separately when a recipe calls for Taco Seasoning. - 11/2/09

Great for us watching sodium! Appreciate the recipe. t = teaspoon, T = tablespoon. When I grew up that was taught in Home Ec. - 12/19/09

I've been making my own taco seasoning for tacos for years as well. Sometimes I use salt and pepper only. Other times, I use cumin, chili powder, garlic and onion powder. After you add whatever spices you choose, add water to deglaze the pan and simmer for about 10 mins. - 8/27/09

I just wanted to comment that this spice blend is not truly salt-free unless you are careful to buy a chili powder without salt. Many of the common brands (such as MCCormick) list salt in the ingredients. I buy all of my spices from Penzey's, who do not add salt to their chili powder. - 12/28/09

i'm not a big fan of cumin so i use 6 tsp chili powder, 5 tsp paprika, 3 tsp onion powder, 2 1/2 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper. enjoy - 12/24/09

I love that it not only has no salt, but also no MSG, like the packets at the grocery store! Thanks! - 11/2/09

So good! I add a dash of garlic just because I love garlic. It tastes just like the real thing, my boyfriend couldn't even tell the difference. - 10/4/10

I've been making my own seasoning mixes for quite some time. It is reassuring to know that I am using foods without all the added ingredients and preservatives. This taco seasoning recipe is easy to make and can be modified to fit personal taste preferences. - 11/2/09

I'm confused. Where are the 2.1g fat coming from? Looks good otherwise!! - 11/2/09

This is the old standard - before fancy packaging! Not to mention how much money you will save in a year doing it this way instead of $.99 a package!! - 12/24/09

Made this tonight for a casserole and it tasted great. We watch our sodium so this is perfect. It's cheaper than the envelopes. - 1/4/10
