Ingredients
1/2 cup warm water1 package active dry yeast1 teaspoon sugar1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, divided1/2 cup whole wheat flour2 tablespoons olive oil1 teaspoon sea salt
Directions
Total time: 55 minutes, plus rising time

Servings: Makes 4 dozen breadsticks

1. In a large bowl, combine the water with the yeast, sugar and one-half cup of the all-purpose flour. Set aside for 10 minutes, until bubbly.

2. Stir in the remaining all-purpose flour, wheat flour, olive oil and salt and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Wash out the bowl and coat it with a thin layer of olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

3. Remove the dough from the bowl and divide it into four pieces on a floured surface. Roll out each piece into a rectangle, 4 by 12 inches. Cut the dough lengthwise into one-third-inch-wide strips. Place the strips about one-half-inch apart on a greased baking sheet or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with the remaining dough. Allow the grissini to rise until puffed, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the oven to 400 degrees.

4.Bake the grissini, in batches, on the top shelf of the oven until lightly browned, about 10 minutes, rotating halfway through. Cool on a rack and continue until all the grissini are baked. Cool, then store in a sealed bag, being careful not to break them.

I just made these and they turned out great! For half of the batch I misted a little water and sprinkle Ms. Dash Garlic and Herb. These were surprisingly easy...I am NOT a baker, but they just don't sell Grassini in my area of TX. Great for phase 2...oh, and this recipe makes 48 serv for HCG diet - 5/18/10

I turn my oven on for about 2 minutes, then turn it off, & then put the bowl with the dough in to rise as it is a "warm" place. I cover the bowl with a small towel. - 12/4/11

I love them! I've been craving something sweet so I added 1t of Cinnamon and 1/4t of Pure Vanilla ... I used my bread machine on the 1pound loaf setting for dough ... if you use a bread machine remember to add all wet ingredients first with the dry on top ...yeast last - 9/15/10

I loved these! made them tonight actually. I seasoned some of them with Mrs. Dash (both the garlic and the onion kinds) and some sea salt. I'm doing hCG so these are awesome being only 22 calories! I just wish there were pictures of the strips of dough so I could see exactly how big they are. - 5/29/10

Terrific! I use a wet towel over my dough bowl when rising, so it does not dry out (my area of US is dry). Instead of trying to make paper thin, I divide the dough in 4ths, then each in 4ths again and those into thirds, roll in palms to make pencil thin. Also I add It. Season, garlic or onion powder - 8/24/13

Thank u so much, had to add to my collection. Using the bread machine to knead is much easier. Apple Cider Vinegar makes an interesting flavour. Other flavour combos to try include Season-All, Onion powder, Oregano & Garlic, Sage & Garlic, Lemon or Lemongrass with Sea salt or Cinnamon & Pure Vanila. - 2/2/13

I've baked majority of my life (since I was 12), and I've learned if the yeast is old it becomes inactive and the bread/ breadsticks will not rise... that could be the problem with LUV2SCRAPNSTAMP attempt.

I wish I would've found this recipe months ago!I finally found Grissini Breadsticks tonight at my grocery store in WY. The reason I couldn't find them was because the HCG diet calls them 'Grissino' and that means one and 'Grissini' is plural. I'm going to make this recipe because of the many spices! - 9/13/10

I am not a baker and tried this recipe but my dough never rose. The active yeast I used came in a package of 3 and I used only 1, was I suppose to use 2? Also, where do most people put the bowl where it is warm? - 7/4/10
