Plain Cake Doughnuts

2 c. flour1/2 c. sugar1 tsp salr1 tbsp baking powder1/4 tsb cinnamon1/8 tsp nutmeg2 tbsp melted butter1/2 c. milk1 egg, beaten1 qt oil for frying
Heat oil to 375 degrees F.
Sift flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg together. Mix in butter until crumbly. Stir in milk and egg. With floured hands, lightly knead the smooth dough. Turn onto floured board. Pat dough into 1/4 inch thickness. Flour biscuit cutters (one 1", one 3-4"). Cut out doughnuts. Fry doughnuts in oil, turning once, for about 3 minutes or until golden brown.
Makes approximately 12 doughnuts
