Yellow split pea soup with sweet potatoes and Kale

Ingredients
2 Med. onions1 1/2 cumin1tsp. black mustard seeds1/2 tsp. olive oil2 tsp ginger, minced2tsp. garlic2 med sweet potatoes8 c. water3c dried yellow split peas1-2 Tbs curry1 bunch fresh kale
Directions
Saute onions for 5 min. Pour cumin and mustard seeds to bottom of pot and add oil. Heat until seeds pop. Add garlic, ginger and curry. Cook 1 minutes. Add sweet potatoes, water, split peas. Cook one hour. Wash kale and remove tough central rib. Add to pot for last ten minutes.

    This soup was great! I always saute my onions in water or vegetable broth instead of oil.. This tasted really good, and was delicious on a chilly, rainy day. - 10/21/09
