Ingredients
Ingredients:1 lb Ground beef, lean (I use 98%)2 tsp Lea & Perrins, Worcestershire Sauce, 2 tsp 2 dashes Salt1 tsp Pepper, black,1 tsp McCormick GrillMates Montreal Steak Seasoning2 slices Bacon (I like the low sodium), cooked, chopped 1 raw Egg4 oz Kraft 2% Sharp Cheddar Cheese cut into cubes6 slices American Cheese6 iceburg lettuce leaves6 tomato slices6 Tbsp Ketchup6 Hamburger Buns
Directions
In a bowl mix ground beef, worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, grill seasoning, bacon and egg in a bowl. Mix with your hands until all ingredients are combined. Make 6 patties out of the meat mixture. With your thumb place a small hole in the middle of the burger. Push chopped chedder cheese inside the middle of the burger - reforming the patty around the cheese.
Grill burger about 6-7 minutes per side (until meat is cooked through). Add a slice of american cheese to top of each burger and allow to melt before removing from grill.
Put burger on bun. Serve with a lettuce leaf, tomato slice, and tbsp of ketchup.

Makes 6 burgers.

sodium is so high because of ketchup, worcestershire sauce, steak seasoning, added salt and buns. Could use no salt added ketchup, lower sodium bread, etc. and make these more friendly to people who have to watch their salt! - 11/4/09

The Lea & Perrins, Worcestershire sauce is where your sodium comes from also probably the Grill Mates. You do not need to add any salt! - 5/14/13

These look pretty good. If I had a grill I'd make them for dinner! The folks who posted tagged your sodium issues perfectly. One thing I probable would change is the cheddar - switch it to Swiss to cut back on some of the sodium. A Mrs. Dash product instead of the McCormick's would probably help - 11/11/09

sounds good, might cut back a little though - 11/10/09

1/6 of a pound of ground beef per serving? And so much depends on the type of bun ... taste-wise & calorie-wise. The added American cheese, for me, is a waste of calories. Creative idea, but just wouldn't do it for me. - 11/10/09

I love cheeseburgers, and I have eaten way more than my share of them at Red Robin, but that was before I started thinking healthy eating. Half of the day's sodium in one serving is way too much for me. - 11/4/09

Everybody...who's not a vegetarian...needs a burger once and a while. I'd find a way to reduce sodium more, but sounds yummy! - 11/4/09

The high sodium comes from worchestershire sauce, McCormicks seasoning, two types of cheese, bacon and ketchup. Perhaps omit the McCormicks, use low sodium, low fat chees and turkey bacon might help - 11/4/09
