Ingredients
12 oz beef round steak, sliced thin1 onion, sliced thin4 cups romaine lettuce, torn2 tomatoes, diced1 cup cucumber slices with peel1/2 cup lime juice1/2 cup fish sauce2 cloves garlic1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped2 Tbsp olive oil 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
Directions
In medium skillet, heat 1 Tbsp oil over medium high heat. Stir-fry steak slices until browned. Remove from pan and add remaining Tbsp oil to pan. Add onion and cook until lightly browned. Add fish sauce, lime juice, cilantro, mint, garlic, and jalapeno to pan. Add steak back to pan and bring to boil. Meanwhile, divide lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers evenly amongst 4 plates. Top salad with hot steak mixture and sauce. Top each salad with 1/2 cup rice.

    I know this dish as Yum Nuer, a favorite of mine. We marinate the steak using the flavors above, grill over hot coals, slice thin across grain. We keep the onion raw, red works very well. Then assemble the salad pretty much as described. I skip the rice - 6/12/07
