Ingredients
3/4 c butter or margarine1/4 c shortening1 cup packed brown sugar1/2 cup granulated sugar3/4 tsp baking soda1/2 tsp salt2 eggs1 tsp vanilla2 1/2 c all purpose flour1 12 oz pkg chocolate chips (2 cups)1 1/2 cups walnuts or pecans (optional)
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening at medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, & salt. Beat until mixture is combined, scraping sides of bowl. Beat in eggs, vanilla, until combined. beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in remaining flour. Stir in 2 1/2 cups (30tbsp) chocolate chips and, if desired, nuts.

Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 9 minutes or until edges are light brown. Transfer to a wire rack; cool. Makes 60 cookies.

For bars: Prepare as above except press cookie dough into an ungreased 15x10x1 inch pan. Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes or until golden. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into bars. makes 48 bars.
