Grandma's Crumb Cake

2 cups flour1 teaspoon cinnamon1/2 teaspoon nutmeg1/2 teaspoon salt1 cup brown sugar1 cup granulated sugar1/2 cup butter1/4 cup shortening 1/2 cup flour 2 eggs, beaten1 cup buttermilk1 teaspoon vanilla1 teaspoon soda
Sift together into mixing bowl: 2 cups flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp salt. Sift sugar and add to dry ingredients with the shortening. Mix until pea size. Remove 1 cup of above mixture and set aside for topping. To the rest add 1/2 cup flour, 2 eggs, beaten, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 tsp vanilla, and 1 tsp soda. Beat with rotary beater until smooth. Pour into 9" x 13" pan. Put 1 cup reserved crumb mixture on
top (may add nuts). Bake @ 350 for 35 minutes.

The cake turned out great I did add a little extra shortening since I felt my mix didn't clump enough. The only problem I had with this recipe is that you didn't say when or what to do with the butter or brown sugar in the recipe nor specify what kind of soda to use I assumed baking soda - 1/1/14
