Mom's Doughnuts

Ingredients
1 c. granulated sugar5 Tbsp melted shortening1 tsp vanilla2 eggs1 c. milk4 c. flour3 tsp. baking powder½ tsp. cinnamon¼ tsp. nutmegShortening for deep frying. Approx. 1 c. will be absorbed.
Directions
1. Cream sugar & shortening
2. Add vanilla & eggs
3. Sift flour, baking powder & spices
4. Add milk & dry ingredients alternately
5. Roll out to ¼" thickness
6. Cut with doughnut cutter
** no cutter? use a glass for the large circle & the top of a salt shaker for the hole **
7. Deep fry in shortening , flipping once
8. Drain in brown paper grocery bags

Makes approx. 4 dozen

    these were ok, kind of bland. I shhok powder sugar over them and that did help some. i also just made doughnut holes insted of doughnuts basicly because i did something wrong and the dough wasnt stiff enough to roll out - 8/10/10
