Dal Tadka

Ingredients
1/3 cup yellow chana dal1/3 cup yellow moong dal1/4 cup orange masoor dal1/3 cup chopped white onion4-5 garlic cloves chopped coarsely2 green chillies sliced 1/2 tsp red chilli powder1/2 tsp garam masala powder1 tbsp oil1/2 tsp mustard seeds1/2 tsp cumin seeds
Directions
mix and wash all the dals in running water
boil them in slightly more than double the water in a pressure cooker - 3 whistles
let it cool, open and mash slightly (don't mash completely to retain good texture)

add about a cup of water, red chilli powder, garam masala and salt. let it simmer

heat oil
add cumin and mustard, let crackle
add chopped garlic. saute 2-3 min until it gets golden brown
add onions and green chillies, saute till onions get translucent
add this mixture to simmering dal

mix and serve over a bed of rice
