I wish I could each soy as some suggested but with hypothyroid soy is not good for me.
But the original recipe is terrific. - 1/18/09

I like to wash the hamburger meat with hot, hot water to get rid of the grease - 11/15/08

Sounds good. You can cut some of the fat by draining the cooked hamburger in a paper-towel lined colander, wipe out the pan, and put the hamburger back into the pan & follow the rest of the recipe. - 11/15/08

This was the best taco filling I have ever tried. I used refried beans instead of the pinto beans. For the taco shells, I baked some corn tortillas for 5 minutes on each side at 350 F. This cut out a LOT of fat and calories! I'll be making these again and can't wait to have the leftovers for lunch! - 1/4/10

You could also do this with TVP -- a cheaper version of soy granules because they come dehydrated... or GimmeLean soy hamburger meat substitute, or just firm tofu... - 6/6/09

Very yummy. I made half the amount and put it in the freezer. It will be a nice quick meal at the weekend.
I used prime beef mince so it doesn't have as much fat as regular mince. - 3/20/13

there is an app to scan products for gluten, and all the taco seasoning mixes i find at our stores have gluten in it, but the fajita mix doesn't. - 3/14/13

12 servings? What a joke. That's barely over an ounce of beef per "taco" You managed to take something and trim the calories by cutting out all the protein. Way to go - 10/3/12

Made this for dinner tonight! Used Meg's Taco seasoning recipe as the taco seasoning for this. WOW! My hubby who does not like beans loved it and both my kids want to add this to the family regulars. Was not too spicey..... made A LOT! We served as hard tacos, with salsa and celery/carrots. - 12/30/09

My recipe is the same but I exclude the water and tomatoe paste. I think you will find that it taste the same. I also add half a package of toco seasoning. - 10/19/09

This sounds like a very good taco filling recipe. It has the beans for protein, and I just add TVP--vegan. I love tacos, and now I can enjoy healthy tacos! - 6/6/09

You can cut calories if you substitute ground turkey for the ground beef. Good quick meal idea. Thanks for sharing. - 1/18/09
