Betty's home-made bread (4 loaves)

Ingredients
2 c. water1/2 c. sugar1 tsp salt1 Tbsp butter1 Tbsp shortening2 eggs2 Tbsp bakers yeast + 1/2 cup lukewarm water1 c. white flour5 c. whole wheat flour
Directions
1. Put the 2 cups of water in a glass bowl and microwave until it boils
2. Measure sugar into large bowl, then take out 1 tsp of the sugar and put into a cup measure.
3. Add the salt, butter and shortening to the large bowl and pur the boiling water over it. Stir until the butter and shortening are melted.
4. To the 1 tsp of sugar add the yeast and lukewarm water and let stand until it foams nicely. This should give the boiling water time to cool down.
5. Once hot mixture cools a bit, whisk in eggs, then yeast mixture
6. Whisk in white flour, then add brown flour cup by cup until kneading consistency reached.
7. Let rise one or two hours.
8. Divide into 4 equal parts and place in loaf pans
9. Let rise another hour
10. Bake at 325 for approx 25 minutes

    This bread is so good. It raised really nice but unfortunately I messed up and the bread fell. Didn't matter because the taste was still great! - 11/22/15

    Nice heavy bread. I loved it and so did my kids. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be so heavy but I'm not THAT good a bread maker! LOL. Either way it was great! - 10/25/08
