Made this for my husband. He's never had lentils before. He said it's definitely one to have again! I made it with diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce, carmelized the onions like The Jench recommended, used chicken broth instead of veggie, and added and extra 1/2 tsp curry and a 1/2 tsp of Garam - 1/7/10

I would reccomend using less tomato sauce. Next time I'm going to try crushed tomatoes- I'll report back. I may also carmelize the onions at the start before the garlic and add more curry powder. In all it's a good start though! - 7/13/07

I found a local store that has specialized ingredients like masoor dahl. So this recipe was tempting and I'm very glad I tried it. I used home made vegetable stock (instead of bouillon and water), diced tomatoes (instead of sauce)and 1/2 tsp garam masala. I recommend this dish. - 5/3/13

This makes 7c for a 1.75cup serving. My first time eating red lentils (thought a huge split pea fan): It's like vegan chili. The texture, cumin, and tomato base make it very like chili. I ate out of bowl with no accompaniment and added cayenne. - 4/6/09

It was good but rather bland. I had to add quite a bit of salt after I dished it up. I think I will add some cayenne next time and increase the curry. This is a good side dish with rice, but I don't know that I will use it as a main meal again. - 2/13/11

I actually ended up having to substitute green lentils and green onions for the onion -- but still turned out great. :) - 9/19/07
