I've made this peanut butter once in awhile (when we can't find any to buy) for several yrs. To be honest, you don't need to add any oil, there's plenty in the peanuts! - 11/30/08

I have been making nut butter a long time - add flax seed oil for omega-3's; chopped nuts for crunchy style; use different nuts for some great flavors - almond butter, yum! - 11/30/07

Any oil (well not motor oil) will do if you don't have peanut oil! - 6/3/08

Since SP members have different needs and can have the extra salt or oil then go for it.It makes a creamier tastier butter. The one thing I really liked was adding flax oil for the omegas 3 oil, great idea.
I use skin on spanish nuts and run them through my Champion juicer...Chef Jim. - 4/2/09

Natural peanutbutter is the way to go. I eat a tablespoon every morning for a healthy dose of fats (necessary for good health), protein and vitamins. One tablespoon (1/2 of a serving) is actually a lot pb to put on toast or apples and is around 100 calories. - 4/2/09

This is great for my diabetic son. I can control his sugar levels better over night with this sugar free peanut butter. I did sub the peanut oil for olive oil to keep his cholesteral and lipids down. Thanks for sharing it. - 4/2/09

Why add oil? As a kid, we made nut butters all the time with nuts and a little honey when sweetening was desired. - 4/2/09

I make peanut butter in my Vitamix (that's how I learned to do it) all the time and only buy from the store if I need it for a recipe. The fun is in the customization, and knowing there is NOTHING unhealthy added. I don't even add the extra oil. - 11/30/07

I love this stuff! And knowing there's no extra junk in it--bonus!!! Almonds and cashews are awesome, too! - 6/3/09

I bet you could use Almonds and Almond oil to make Almond butter
    And
Cashews and Almond oild to make cashew butter

OMG! You have just created a nut butter monster!
    Thanks for the wonderful idea!
Store bought peanut butter has nasty hydrogenated oil in it.
This is much healthier! - 4/2/09

This recipe could be used for any kind of nut or mixture of nuts. I used to buy Pistachio butter at the food co-op, but then it was no longer available. Now I could make my own. Mmmm, and how about walnut butter? - 4/2/09

Too oily for me but the taste was good. I did some research: You can reduce the fat by making nut milk, squeezing meats dry, process with only as much nut milk as required for desired texture. Most of the oil/fats from the nuts is in the milk. Use remaining milk for lactose free baking. - 4/2/09

I buy natural peanut butter from Publix. It is just ground peanuts nothing else added. I believe you can also buy it at health food stores. I like the fact that there is no salt or extra added fat. - 6/3/09

I have made h9omemade peanut butter but have never added extra salt or oil, just the peanuts themselves, worked out fine. I love a peanut butter sandwich once in awhile. - 6/3/08

Peanuts are NOT bad for you, they are however not the best nuts. Notice peanut oil is what they used, again not bad oil. You may substitute olive oil or not use any oil at all. I too would leave out the salt but some people cant do without it maybe a compromise use only 1/2 the salt - 4/2/09

I agree with everyone who stated that this is a healthy alternative!! You can customize it to make it more to what you are wanting, less/or no salt for instant! - 6/3/08

I eat peanut butter every day! I LOVE it. I buy natural...but this is a much better alternative and much better on the pocket book! Thank you. - 4/2/09

I'm definitely trying this one! And as for the comments about it being too high in calories, look at your peanut butter jar! They only count 1 Tablespoon, this one counts 2 as a serving. It's barely any more calories or fat than the jar, and far less sugar! More protein than carbs makes it worth it - 7/17/09

Now this I LOVE! I can make my own peanut butter and I can KNOW that it's fresh! Thank you for this great recipe! - 6/5/09
