Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breastsdash of salt and pepper2/3 cup BBQ sauce6 whole wheat hamburger buns
Directions
Place chicken breasts, along with salt and pepper to taste, in a large pot of water and boil until fully cooked through. (Time will vary depending on whether you are using fresh or frozen chicken.)

Once the chicken is cooked, use a fork to pull the meat apart so it is thickly shredded. (Shredding too finely will cause the sandwich to become mushy once sauce is added.) Place pulled chicken in a large bowl.

Add a half bottle (approx. 2/3 cup) of BBQ sauce. Toss until chicken is coated.

Distribute chicken evenly onto buns. You may choose to toast the buns first, or add toppings like lettuce or red onion to the mixture, or spread a small amount of the sauce right onto the bun before assembling. This delicious alternative to the classic bbq sandwich will be a hit any way you serve it!

Merita Lite wheat hamburger and hotdog buns only have 80 calories each, and would cut down on the calorie count. I would probably simmer the chicken breasts in a little chicken broth, which I would later use for soup or to cook cabbage, cauliflower or broccoli. - 8/8/07

This is tasty! I cook the chicken in my crock during the day, drain, add BBQ and viola! Effortless, great for work days. Thanks for sharing! :O) - 2/25/09

Consider open faced sandwiches to cut down on half the carbs/calories from the buns. I definately recommend toasting buttered buns w/a sprinkle of garlic powder on a griddle before assembling. Would be great with roasted asparagus! - 9/14/07

I use a lot less BBQ sauce and no salt since the BBQ sauce has plenty. I put it on Arnolds Wheat Sandwich Thins at 100 calories for a top and bottom bun. (I use the sandwich thins for all my sandwiches now - it's delicious!) This makes a great breakfast sandwich and it's really filling. - 7/29/09

I only ended up using 6 tbsp of BBQ sauce for 12 oz of chicken, and it was delicious! - 8/11/07

Excellent dish! I added sauted onions and the chicken in a skillet rather than boiling it. I also toasted the buns. - 6/18/09

I have made this before but I used a low carb wrap and another friend of mine used romaine lettuce leaves and we both agree this is an awesome recipe, try a splenda brown sugar in with the BBQ sauce it is too die for! - 5/6/09

We have been making this for awhile now. Very good and just another way to serve chicken for variety. I leave my chicken in the crockpot on low for 6 hours or so and then shred. So easy! - 3/30/09

Didn't have low cal bbq sauce but used regular kraft bbq sauce (3 tbsp per 3 oz of shredded chkn) and I really liked it! Husband said 3 tbsp of sauce was too strong and recommends less sauce next time but loves the food! Very easy to prep and make with boiled frozen chicken breasts (10-15 min prep). - 6/2/09

Easy, and tasted great, but when I added up the calories, I got 437 per serving. Ouch! The buns I bought were 200 calories, plus 120 gms of chicken, and about 3.5 tbs sauce (105 calories). With lower-cal buns, I would definately make it again - just be aware of what you are putting in the pot! - 7/30/07

I didnt add the salt and I used a bit less barbecue sauce and this was still delicious. My husband enjoyed it, too. Thanks for this recipe. I will make it again. - 1/19/09

We really loved this! I used Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce; only used 12 TBSP which was fine for us; also found 100 cal whitewheat buns so this came out to be a fairly low calorie meal. It definitely tasted delicious and will be a great weeknight meal if the breasts are boiled the night before. Thanks! - 8/2/09

I do this and just put the chicken in the slow cooker, then shred it and add the BBQ sauce. Ilike it better than beef or pork. - 5/6/09

My Family went crazy for this dish! I could not believe how easy it was also. My daughters and I both liked it with the KC Masterpiece sauce, my hubby wanted Chris and PItts, so I just slpit the cooked chicken into 2 bowls and made everyone happy! - 12/29/08

This was really good. I was a little apprehensive about the boiled chicken part ... but it tasted much better than my brain thought it would! But the key is to have a GREAT BBQ sauce! Thanks for sharing such an easy meal with us! - 2/4/09

OMG! I make the same thing but just use regular KC masterpiece. It freezes well too! I actually use a whole chicken and a whole bottle and put it in the crock pot with a little chicken broth. - 4/12/09

Sounds good I always have left over chicken and I am going to try this recipe to use up the extra chicken in a way it will not taste left over. Thanks I'll let you know how it works out. - 5/21/09
