Orange Applesauce (slow cooker)

8-10 Apples, peeled and cored2 tbsp Lemon Juice2 tbsp Water, as needed1 Orange, zest strips (leaving the white pith behind)Sugar to taste
Place peeled and cored apples in slow cooker. Mix with lemon juice and orange zest. If the apples seem unusually dry, add the water to the cooker. cover and cook until the apples are extremely tender and falling apart, on HIGH for 3 to 3 1/2 hours or on LOW for 5 to 6 hours.
Remove orange zest and puree apples in a food processor, or with a handheld immersion blender in the cooker.. For a chunky applesauce, mash apples with a meat tenderizer. Serve immediately or refrigerate for later use. The applesauce will keep, tightly covered, for 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
