Introduction

Number of Servings: 25

Ingredients

    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp salt
    2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    1 cup white sugar
    1/4 cup dates, finely chopped
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 can black beans, rinsed & drained
    1/4 cup water

Directions

Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt in a quart jar. Layer cocoa and sugar and seal the jar.

Attach a tag with the following instructions: Brownie Mix in a Jar
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x9" pan.
2. Empty jar of brownie mix into a large mixing bowl, and stir to blend. Mash dates, vanilla and 1/2c water with black beans. Mix thoroughly.
3. Spread batter evenly into prepared baking pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely in pan before cutting into 25 squares.

    Seriously - it contributes to the fudge texture! I didn't tell my husband what was in them and he fessed up that he loved them and asked me to make them again this weekend. I reduced the sugar, so you may want to play with that. I have more details on my blog: http://food.brookeandsteve.ca
