This recipe will work in a bread machine with a couple tablespoons of bread flour added. It doesn't rise as much which results in a dense, moist loaf which provides about 10 slices instead of 16. - 1/27/10

To die for delicious, and ridiculously easy! I've never made bread before and this loaf turned out perfect. I made with rolled oats rather than instant with no ill effect that I could see. Thanks for sharing this great recipe, I'll def make it again! - 4/4/10

I haven't bought bread in over a year, so as someone who frequently makes bread, this was a GREAT recipe! Easy and foolproof! Fabulous flavor. I added about 1/3 cup more water because I thought it was a bit too dry and dense. - 5/12/10

I make bread (usually with machine) a couple of times a week, using mostly whole wheat flour. This will definitely be added to my bread recipe collection. Will probably add some dried cranberries, grated orange peel, cinnamon and nuts for a good breakfast/brunch bread. - 5/12/10

I added vital wheat gluten and replaced honey with maple syrup. This was quick, easy and delicious. - 3/9/10

Made it as described as well as with my ever present sour dough starter. Both are winners. Awesome, quick and easy. Cavet though, do not pour the boiling water, oats, salt and honey into the yeast slurry. Let it cool to about 100 F first, or it will kill the yeazst! - 11/14/11

Delicious! I made these into dinner rolls to help with portion control. Wonderful served with soup! - 2/13/11

Helpful note: after mixing yeast with 1/4 cup of warm water add to the oat, salt, honey & water mixture this will "proof" the yeast. This will start the rising process. Mix & let sit until little bubbles start to rise then add to flour & mix. let rise with damp towel in a warm non drafty place - 4/11/13

I made this in the bread machine and added a bit more yeast. You need to with whole wheat flour. - 2/4/11

Tried it twice and it would never rise. The first time I thought I did something wrong. So I tried again a month or so later and still had the same problem. I guess it's time to move on the the next one. - 12/30/10

I made this cause of the reviews and how easy it looked. My family LOVED it. It was so delicious and hit my craving for HOMEMADE bread. Will definitely make over and over again. - 10/11/09

This bread is thick, moist & delicious!Ridiculously easy to prepare so I doubled it.I'm a novice bread baker & have only made one recipe prior, Jacques Pepin's Easy One-Pot Bread. Alterations: add about 1/3 cup water extra to oat & honey mix as advised by another member ; used whole oats instead - 4/2/13

I am glad I read all the reviews before making. Like others, mine did not rise much and is very dense & moist. It is not a good bread for sandwiches (which I don't eat anyway), but is tasty accompaniment for soup, snack or meal. I did get 16 thin slices at 1-1.5 oz each. Will try rolls next time. - 12/29/12

Made this yesterday and it didn't rise well so today I did half white and half wheat .... its already looking bigger can't wait too cook it up this bread seems to be good for peanut butter toast :) - 5/2/12

I doubled the recipe, then baked one after one rise as instructed, and punched the second one down and let it rise a second time, they were identical when baked, so the second rise didn't help make it a higher bread. I might try wheat gluten next time, great taste and texture. I love hearty bread! - 1/3/11

This bread was easy to make! I replaced one of the cups of whole wheat flour with a cup of bread flour to make the bread a bit more light and fluffy while still retaining the benefits of the whole wheat flour. - 8/3/10

I had never been able to make good bread- my family always referred to my "bread" hockey pucks!! This recipe was foolproof! Thank you! - 3/8/10

Easy, quick and delicious. Definitely a keeper. Make vegan by replacing honey with agave nectar. Thanks for the yummy recipe. - 2/11/10

While the taste was good, It is only good for snacking plain. The taste would not work well with sandwiches. It was also way to dense for a yeast bread. If I do make this again I will definitely increase the rise time to overnight. - 1/1/12

This bread is easy to make and has great flavor. I'm not a baker and I made it. I kneaded it with a timer and got better rise in the loaf I kneaded longer. It's going to be a staple at my house from now on! - 10/17/11

I replaced the yeast with baking powder and it was really moist and delicious! - 9/11/11

i made this into breadsticks, which was a good call in my mind. the bread didnt rise too much, but it was still nice and fluffy with a crisp crust. I will keep making this recipe as it is one of my favorite breads. maybe next time i will add more yeast to help with rising? - 8/8/11
