Granny's Cabbage & Meatballs

Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef1 small onion, finely chopped2 eggs1 tsp McCormick Hamburger or Montreal steak seasoning2 Tbs Parsley flakes1 tsp pepper1 clove garlic finely chopped (or minced garlic)1 tsp dried thyme1 head of cabbage1 large onion, slices into rings1 15 oz can tomato sauce Approx 1 cup waterSalt to tastePepper to TasteGarlic Powder
1. Mix first 8 ingredients together and form into 2-3 inch patties.
2. Heat 5 qt. dutch oven and brown patties on each side. (I drain excess grease out of pan)
3. Cut up cabbage and place on top of patties.Lay onion rings over top of cabbage.
4. Pour tomato sauce over onions, cabbage and meatballs. Add just enough water to almost cover cabbage. Sprinkle the pepper, salt and garlic powder over and cover to cook.
5. When cabbage is almost done, remove lid and let sauce reduce. Cook to your desired doneness, but don't over cook.

This was yummy! I used my own meatballs that I had in the freezer. I was looking for something to eat the meatballs with besides pasta and this is great! - 1/14/09

Also good with ground venison - just use a spray of olive oil to keep the meatballs from sticking. - 1/20/09
