You can eliminate additional calories by removing the juice in the recipe. Bring the berries to a slow boil in a saute pan with a little water, and top the cake with it. If you prefer, you can add a pack of Splenda to the berries. When warm, I did not need the cool whip. YUM! - 1/29/09

The whipped cream is unnecessary. It's delicious with just the fruit. - 6/25/20

This was SO yummy! My grocery store didn't have the welch's juice so I had to compromise and use sugar free strawberry glaze. It was amazing! - 4/2/10

I make this often for my family!! We replace the juice with instant fat free chocolate pudding (made with nonfat milk) and use 95% fat free cool whip. Also add blueberries sometimes. This is so delicious and yummy!! - 3/7/09

This is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing it. Even my DH likes it and that's unusual with a low-cal, low-fat recipe. - 2/24/09

I think fat free whipped topping and fresh sliced strawberries are all you need on it... Less calories, all the flavor... Agree with the warm topping comment - can easily do that (saute strawberries), would be great too. - 2/12/09

Will prepare on groundhog day for my son's birthday. He's lost 35 pounds since August and I don't want to sabotage his success! Looks delicious. - 1/29/09

My grocery store has a 100calorie for 1/8 of the cake angel food cake that we love with strawberries - I might have to try this topping on it! (the store bought angel food cake is lower cal than any mix I could find). - 1/29/09

i bet you could also make this with banana's and sugar free vanilla pudding in exchange for the welches and strawberries.. or pineapple and cococut flakes - 9/24/08

Delicious! Made this for the 4th of July and added a few blueberries as well--it was a hit for my extended family get-together. So easy that my young children could help me make the topping (and I bought the cake, so it was SUPER easy). Thanks for sharing this recipe. - 7/14/08
