Awesome after a few adjustment plus 85 cal. per cookie.1/4 cup butter and 3/4 cup applesauce. 1 whole egg and 1/2 bag of chocolate chips. Perfect! Plenty of chips in each cookie, batch made 36 nice size cookies. This is the best lower calorie cookie I've made so far and hubby loved them. - 12/21/08

Used sugar instead of Splenda & also used 2 whole egg (why just yolk? the white is just extra protein!) 11-13 min. for my oven depending on cookie size & I didn't use parchment, just on the sheet. 2nd time making recipe used only 1/4 cup butter -still just as good as the classic & healthier. YUM! - 9/6/08

I modified the recipe: 1/2c rolled oats, 1/2 c white flour, 1/4 c splenda brown sugar, 1/4 c margarine, 3/4 c applesauce and 3/4 cup chocolate chips all other ingredients stayed the same. I got 36 cookies and calculations are: Calories- 109, Fat - 4.8, Carbs 16.1 and protein - 1.8. Cookies are small - 8/15/09

I've made cookies with 100% whole wheat forever. I never use white flour. Wheat makes them have a more robust flavor. These are good, but I didn't use the Splenda since sugar is not an issue for me and I don't like using chemically created products if I don't have to. - 10/3/07

Instead of all purpose flour I used a combination of brown rice and oat flour. My family loved the cookies and they hate 'healthy' foods. Thank you for sharing this great recipe! - 1/16/08

DD's comments: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside!! They were definitely a big hit. I don't own Splenda, so I just used sugar. I also don't own butter but used margarine instead. They were great! - 5/3/08

I substituted 1/2 C organic cane sugar + 1/4 C Sucanat for the Splenda. They turned out great, a wonderful choc. chip cookie recipie! - 4/4/09

I've done this for years, plus I add 1/2c wheat germ and 1/2c oatmeal...in place of 1/2 c ww flour and 1/2 cup reg. flour. - 8/25/08

You can also use stevia in place of the sugar. It is a natural sweetner and great for diabetics as well. - 8/26/08

GREAT recipe for my newly worsened diabetes!!!! I put 1/2 c Splenda and 1/2 c unsweetened applesauce. I love these cookies and I know they're healthy for me! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! - 8/23/08

Loved this recipe!!! I've never used whole wheat flour or applesauce as swaps in recipes before. I will definitely do it again. I like these better than the normal TollHouse recipe! I did the 1/4 butter with 3/4 applesauce swap and I used dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. Awesome-Thx! - 1/29/10

This is very good. A lot better right when they're made than after stored for the next day. - 9/1/08

Okay, but they didn't 'flatten' like normal cookies and get chewy. Flavor was good, though I have found healther low cal recipes for these. - 2/25/09

The cook time was way too long... I burnt the first batch so I changed the oven to 350 and only left the cookies in for 10 mins. Also, I used one whole egg instead of the 2 yolks (as I dont like to waste an egg) Overall, I got good reviews on these from our cookie exchange. - 12/22/09

I can't wait to try these. I've made a variation for years but never could quite get it right! I like using minichips. - 8/29/08

This recipe is great. I substituted 1 1/2c whole wheat pastry flour for the whole wheat. I didnt use splenda. I used organic cane juice crystals, two eggs instead of just yokes. My family will never know.:) - 10/19/10

I used this recipe as a basis for "monster cookies". Like others, I lessened the butter and increased the applesauce. Instead of just chocolate chips, I had those, peanuts and M&Ms. Thanks so much!! - 11/13/09

*Very* good on flavor and pretty cookie (nice round mound)! Pretty high in calories but a good alternative for gifting to those not "dieting." - 12/10/07

I made them today!! Wow are they good!!! I used Splenda for both the white and the brown sugar and dark chocolate chips for a little extra "antioxidant" boost :-} Thank you!! These are a keeper and will be made again and again!!! - 4/17/10

These cooked slightly dry for me on the outside, even with adjusting the bake time downward with each subsequent batch. Still, they were quite tasty. I don't think there will be any left in the cookie jar here by the end of the week. ^_^ - 12/8/09
