Turkey Burgers with Swiss and Garlic Mushrooms

Introduction

A lighter version of a favorite burger. A lighter version of a favorite burger.
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

1 package (about 1 pound) 93% lean ground turkey
    1/4 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt (such as Morton's Nature's Seasons seasoning blend)
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 (8-oz) package pre-sliced mushrooms (about 2 1/2 cups)
    1 tablespoon butter or margarine
2 slices reduced-fat Swiss cheese, torn in half
    Whole-wheat or whole-grain hamburger buns

Directions

Combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, and seasoning salt in a bowl. Mix well with hands. Separate turkey mixture into four, equally sized balls. Form balls into patties, set aside.

Melt butter in a small skillet. Add in garlic, stir-fry for 1 minute, add in mushrooms. Cook mushrooms for about 10 minutes, or until mushrooms are tender and liquid cooks off.

Grill or pan-fry turkey burgers for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until cooked through. Place on whole-grain buns, top with 1/2 slice Swiss cheese and mushroom mixture.

I used lean ground turkey instead of chicken because that's what I had. These were SOOOO good! My husband (who is anti-healthy) is a huge fan! - 5/27/07

I had to leave out the seasoning salt to try and lower the sodium, which was way too high for me, I used Mrs. Dash instead for taste. I'm guessing the cheese has a lot of salt itself. - 7/6/13

  • Whoa Nelli! that's way too much sodium for me. I use Ms Dash and/or a combination of garlic, onion powder and fresh ground pepper. Also I seldom put butter in the skillet to sauté mushrooms. If I use a little butter I use unsalted but i spray with Pam and a splash of EVOO. - 7/6/13

  • Grilled these and they turned out great! Not too dry like some turkey burgers I've made in the past. Hubby said he would eat anytime! Could not get 18-yr old son to even try them!! That gave us leftovers for lunch! - 8/25/11
