If you are worried about aspartame you can use Coke Zero which is sweetened with Splenda. :) - 3/2/09

    Very nice indeed, thanks!!!

Nothing says unsafe from AboutAspartame.com: Aspartame is widely used in cooking and baking. The ingredient allows those with diabetes and other medical conditions more flexibility in their diets, and is a low-calorie, no-carbohydrate alternative to sugar. - 2/22/09

I thought this was good. I added onion and green pepper. It did have to cook a little longer to thicken up, but we had it open-faced on a low-cal bun and it was fine. - 3/6/09

These were fantastic. Quick, Easy, and Economical. I used Coke Zero because it's what we had on hand. I'm sure any diet Cola will work. I added three minced garlic cloves and a little fresh ground black pepper. - 3/10/09

Surprisingly good! I used DietRite b/c it's made with Splenda (safe to heat). I also added 1/4 c onions, 1/4 c bell pepper, and used regular mustard but left out the vinegar. Sweet! - 3/2/09

Can you use turkey instead? - 2/27/09

Yes, but make sure you use the nutrition facts for the turkey and not the one posted with recipe cause it's for 96% extra lean ground beef.

I didn't have diet coke or ketchup, so I did regular coke and BBQ sauce. Nice! - 2/20/09

I used ground turkey and Coke Zero and I loved it! glad that I resisted the temptation to add stuff the first time, I think onions and peppers would have taken over the flavor. You do need to let it cook down to thicken, but it's worth it. Great recipe - 4/11/09

These were very good. I made them on the stove and they thickened up in about 20 minutes. Whole family loved them! - 3/11/09

This was a very good substitute for sloppy joes. Even my husband liked it. He took the leftovers and added to a soup the next night. Yum. - 3/10/09

This sounds like a great recipe, but it is unsafe to heat aspartame. You should never drink a diet coke that's been sitting in a hot car, even if you ice it down later.
Use coke zero with splenda. - 5/28/09
