I loved the turkey and black bean joes. I know some family don't like beans, but there are ways to hide them. Try puting them in the blender with the tomato past and blend until you can no longer see them. This also good to do with chili. It cause less gas and adds much fiber. - 6/13/08

This was awesome! I made a couple of changes, used 1 lb extra lean ground beefand 1/2 lb ground turkey. Used tomato sauce and a little bbq sauce. Put in crockpot for 3 hours. Loved it, ate as chili with some melted cheese on top. Even 14 year old son loved it! Will definately make again. - 11/3/08

Watch those buns! So many of the wheat / whole grain buns out there have a load of calories. I recommend and manually entered into the SparkPeople system my favorite bun: Sara Lee Delightful Wheat Hamburger Bun (90 calories, 2g of fat, 8g of protein, 6g of fiber). - 9/5/09

I have made this twice in two weeks. My family loved it the first time. The second time I only used 1 lb. of ground turkey, eliminated the olive oil and tomato juice, and added 1/2 cup of salsa. I was out of onion, so I used onion flakes, and garlic powder. It was amazing!!! - 7/10/09

I subbed 2 cans of low salt diced tomates for the tomato juice and tomatoes with chilis and added a couple of seeded, deveined jalapenos, and diced a red sweet pepper, large peeled carrot, peeled parsnip, and added 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin. I put all into the crockpot for a few hours - mmmmm

I left out the tom.soup.I thought the miosture from the chillies and tom. were sufficient to get sloppy joe consistency....Chef Jim - 2/3/09

This was easy and very tasty. I made it in the crock pot so it would have a little more time to blend the flavors and it was great. I also added a couple shakes of red pepper since my hubby likes it spicer. A great way to get those "oh so good for you" bean in your meal! - 10/1/08

I love the nutrional values in this recipe except for the sodium content so I substituted fresh crushed tomatoes instead of paste and the canned tomatoes, skipped the Ms Dash and added cumin and red pepper flakes. - 7/1/09

Substituted spicy V8 juice for tomato juice and omitted olive oil & green chiles. Husband & father-in-law gave it 2 thumbs up( & they can be pretty picky). I Loved it too! - 5/20/08

Very good. Like some other posters, I added red bell peppers and chipotle with a little adobo sauce to kick up the heat. Thank you! - 2/24/09

I would recommend this recipe to anyone who likes joes and even those who don't. This meal could change anyone's mind and my family will never eat canned joes again... SMILES! - 6/4/08

Sounds good, and using tomato products with NO salt added would really help the sodium. - 2/3/09

Really easy to make & pleasing for a big crowd. I forgot black beans at the store & made it without them and it was still excellent. - 6/24/08

I think this dish is fantastic! delicious and versatile. has the consistancy of sloppy joes so great on a bun, or even delish on tortilla chips or baked potatos(awesome for leftover lunch!). It also has a great chili taste. I will use this as a base for my next chili! - 5/20/08

I substituted spaghetti sauce for tomato sauce and paste (which I forgot to buy) and it turned out great. My 1 & 4 year olds loved it!! Sloppy joes I don't mind serving! - 5/14/08

So good! I didn't tell my boyfriend that it was healthy--he thought it fit right into his "bachelor chow" plan, I couldn't break his heart. :) - 2/10/08

Loved this recipe - we had it on baked potatoes! - 2/27/08

I like this with cannelini beans by itself, but the black beans make this come alive for Joes. - 7/1/09

This was fantastic! I didn't think it was like chili at all. I let it simmer for awhile and a lot of the extra liquid evaporated, and became more of the sloppy-joe consistency. I'm eating the left-overs for lunch today! - 5/23/08

Great recipe! Very easy, tastes really good, and the nutritional balance was great. Next time I will add a little more 'heat' and veggies - carrots, celery and green pepper - some cilantro too! - 1/15/08

Very tasty and very filling! I omitted the tomato juice and used a little bit of apple juice instead. I also sauteed the onions and garlic for a bit before adding them to the pot. I'll definitely be making this again! - 12/23/07

Made this again and in lieu of tomatoes with green chilies, i used salsa, which we always have on hand. Omitted the tom juice. Still delish. - 8/2/09

This was very good! I made a few changes. Not adding tomato juice or paste. Used a squirt of ketchup and added a poblano pepper w/ adobe sauce for a little kick and more flavor. Ate in a WW pita. Yummy! Very filling too. - 1/20/09

This was pretty good. Definately healthier than the regular version. I forgot the onion (shame on me) so maybe that would have helped the flavor a bit. Next time, I think I'll only use half the beans and add a bit more spice. It was just a little bland for me. My husband liked it though. - 7/10/08
