Ingredients
1 stick of butter (can use margarine)3 ribs celery, chopped1 large white onion, chopped1 bell pepper, chopped3 cloves garlic, minced3 Tbsp flour (can use wheat flour)2 lbs shrimp (crawfish tails make a great substitute)1 1/2 cups water2 Tblsp tomato paste (no more than this)1 Tbsp lemon juice1/2 tsp salt1/8 tsp cayenne pepper1/2 tsp basil1/2 tsp thyme1/4 tsp chili pepper1/4 tsp ground cloves2 Tbspmiinced parsley
Directions
Melt butter in a large skillet. Add celery, onion, bell pepper and garlic. Saute on medium heat until vegetables are soft. Stir in flour. Add shrimp, water, tomato paste, lemon juice and all seasonings (it's easiest to pre-measure all seasonings into 1 bowl and then empty into skillet when time). Cook 15 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. Cover and simmer another 15 minutes. Add parsley. Stir, cover and remove form heat. Serve over hot rice (I use brown rice instead of white).

This sounds good, but the nutrition isn't correct. The shrimp alone is off by 50 calories per serving...(2 lbs shrimp @ 8 servings isn't 2 oz which is what is in the nutrition info). I may make it for 4 servings using 1/2 lb. shrimp to try, which will be closer to the published nutrition / serving - 3/1/14

I never thought I cared for Etouffee, but this is now my go to recipe. I abosolutely love the taste of all the ingredients mixed together in this recipe. It just has fantastic taste & very very good!!! Just try it, you won't be disappointed. - 5/8/11

this was pretty amazing. Good flavor, not difficult to make. My only problem with it is that there's no way that it's 185 calories. There's a T of butter in each serving, that's 180 calories right there. It's very rich. Next time I make it, I'll use 1/2 the butter and go from there. - 10/25/10

I enjoyed it, but will probably need to cut the recipe in half, it's just too much food. - 8/10/10

This was fantastic. I did use the whole wheat flour and I omitted the clove as it sounded too unusual, but after reading the comments, I might try it next time. This is definitely one of the best new recipes I have had. - 4/2/09

This is SO awesome. I was shocked to see that one serving was only 185 calories. I wasn't sure at first if I liked having clove in it, but it's so subtle, it doesn't overpower the dish at all. Thank you for sharing! - 8/28/08
