To make self rising flour...1 cup white flour,1 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt. - 5/13/15

This bread was super easy and a big hit with my family. I didn't have self-rising flour on hand; so, I sub'd 1 c whole wheat flour, 2 c all purpose flour 4 tsp baking powder and 3/4 tsp kosher salt. I used Sam Adam's White Christmas. My loaf came out to ~24 oz (2 oz/slice) I will make again. - 12/3/13

I work with grams or ounces...I WISH Spark recipes would give me how many grams/ounces per serving...NOT how many pieces! grrrrrrr - 11/15/13

I have been making this recipe for beer bread for years.......except I use light beer like Bud and add some cubed pepper jack cheese to the batter and yum, yum, yum. - 2/15/15

Wow! I bought self-rising flour and followed the recipe exactly, including pouring the butter over the top. I shared the loaf with friends with a long history of baking, and they raved AND told others about it who later told me how good they heard it was. P.S. I agree with HOLDINGMYOWN. - 4/4/14

For Deeebee and Holdingmyown. I too work in grams. Weigh the loaf after baking and divide by 12 to get the weight of a single slice. - 2/15/15

I added 1/2 teaspoon of Italian Seasoning and a pinch of garlic powder to recipe for pasta night. Next time I would add just a little more garlic, but it was awesome. Incredibly easy to make and a joy to share with others. - 2/15/15

Very dense and sweet, even though I used only half the sugar. Very disappointed that the bread does not match the picture. I was expecting something quite different than what this recipe actually makes, based on the pic. - 2/15/15

Yum! :) I think I'll use about 1/2 the sugar next time. Tasted great, though! Thanks!! :D - 4/8/09

I love beer bread. I use Whole Wheat flour. So simple to make and quick as well. Great as a gift with homemade Spaghetti sauce or Lasagna. - 3/14/07

I really Wonder why this is in Spark People?
    There is almost no fibers
    And not much Nutrition
I guess it is the Photo that is the reason - 2/16/15

People think you have to buy a beer bread mix to make beer bread, but it's the simplest quick bread to make. I love this recipe!! - 3/14/07

I have made this recipe FOR YEARS. If you like the top crusty, leave out to firm up as it cools. If you like a softer top, cover with foil right away. If the top is what you like most and need it faster, portion it out into a muffin tin. - 2/15/18

Easy and delicious. I made my own self-rising flour by adding 4 tsp baking powder. Added 1 tsp salt. Used 1/4 c sugar, still quite sweet. Subbed 1/2 c Red Fife whole wheat flour and 1/4 c. buckwheat flour for 3/4 c of white flour. Poured the melted butter over as suggested. Used dark beer. Delish! - 2/20/20

Who remembers the type of dip you make to go with this? I know it was Tastefully Simple but I'm sure there is a similar recipe out there. - 4/14/16

Soooo easy and fast! Didn't have dark beer. Had beer left by some friends. Used a bottle but tasted the batter before baking. Found it a bit tart so I sprinkled sugar on top and melted the butter on top as someone suggested. Really good! Would make again. - 2/15/16
