Nutrition & Calorie Comments

This recipe isn't even remotely low carb. That category needs to be removed from this recipe. Low carb means no wheat (not even whole wheat), no grains (corn is a grain) no beans/legumes.
I'm always disappointed when the picture doesn't match the recipe. But the title doesn't say "Chili Dog" it says "Chili Dog Makeover." And it is a very good one! This is a really great, all-purpose black bean salsa, though you need to add a bit of salt if you used salt-free beans and corn. Delish!
Humm - as a chicka that lives a high lean prtein, moderate carbs & tries for only healthy fats I'm not sure I would subs. black beans. Whole wheat bun yes, reduced fat cheese for sure, and a turkey dog, but I think I'd make some healthy lean chili and go that route instead! (-:
Would love to try this unfortunately hot dogs have too much sodium for me. Sounds delicious though!
I don't exactly like the concept of putting blackbean & corn salsa on top of a hotdog. You can have just as little calories and fat using Hormel's Vegetarian Chili with Beans, fat free mozzarella, whole wheat bun, and a 100% chicken or beef hotdog. Then it is most definitely a chili-dog!
I made this with the Oscar Meyer fat-free hot dogs and was REALLY ikpressed! I agree that it's not a "chili" dog, but I am so glad I tried it!
applegate organic all beef hotdogs only have 70 calories each and no nitrates...for certain a better choice not a chili dog but still a good dog.
This is so delicious! I put it in a food processor to mix the flavors better. Roasted the hot dogs and cut in half. Served on half of a folded Sara Lee thin whole wheat bun, mustard, 2T of salsa, with a sprinkle of red. fat sharp cheddar - seriously delicious. Thank you SO much Chef Meg!
Why is it I'm having difficulty grasping the concept of a nutritionally healthy chili cheese hotdog makeover??????? Still, this sounds like it might work. Anything with jalapenos has got to be good and tasty......I'll be looking for the turkey hotdogs next trip to the store.
