Awesome after a few adjustment plus 85 cal. per cookie.1/4 cup butter and 3/4 cup applesauce. 1 whole egg and 1/2 bag of chocolate chips. Perfect! Plenty of chips in each cookie, batch made 36 nice size cookies. This is the best lower calorie cookie I've made so far and hubby loved them. - 12/21/08

Used sugar instead of Splenda & also used 2 whole egg (why just yolk? the white is just extra protein!) 11-13 min. for my oven depending on cookie size & I didn't use parchment, just on the sheet. 2nd time making recipe used only 1/4 cup butter -still just as good as the classic & healthier. YUM! - 9/6/08

I modified the recipe: 1/2c rolled oats, 1/2 c white flour, 1/4 c splenda brown sugar, 1/4 c margarine, 3/4 c applesauce and 3/4 cup chocolate chips all other ingredients stayed the same. I got 36 cookies and calculations are: Calories- 109, Fat - 4.8, Carbs 16.1 and protein - 1.8. Cookies are small - 8/15/09

I've made cookies with 100% whole wheat forever. I never use white flour. Wheat makes them have a more robust flavor. These are good, but I didn't use the Splenda since sugar is not an issue for me and I don't like using chemically created products if I don't have to. - 10/3/07

Loved this recipe!!! I've never used whole wheat flour or applesauce as swaps in recipes before. I will definitely do it again. I like these better than the normal TollHouse recipe! I did the 1/4 butter with 3/4 applesauce swap and I used dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. Awesome-Thx! - 1/29/10

The cook time was way too long... I burnt the first batch so I changed the oven to 350 and only left the cookies in for 10 mins. Also, I used one whole egg instead of the 2 yolks (as I dont like to waste an egg) Overall, I got good reviews on these from our cookie exchange. - 12/22/09

The kids loved these. I typically don't care much for choco chips, but they made these cookies! They didn't flatten as they cooked but it made them sort of fluffy. Very good! Next time I will cut backon the butter and sub with more applesauce to cut additional calories. - 2/8/10

The ingredients in calorie counts don't match those of the recipe. Butter's listed twice; applesauce is missing; the chocolate chips pkg is 6 oz, not 12; therefore the calories are totally off per cookie.

I will try this recipe soon but I will use egg beaters for the egg yolk and substitute a healthier margarine instead of the butter (and will cut back on the salt by at least 50% because there is salt in the margarine). I also agree with MCDean52 and use unsw applesauce and cut back on Splenda a bit. - 8/23/08

I did my own substitutions, I put in 1/2 cup Truvia baking sweetener for the Splenda, and then put in only 1/2 cup light brown sugar, I also used dark chocolate chips (6 ounces) and they turned out great, a little stronger flavor than regular chocolate chips, but my subs made it into 86 cal/cookie - 12/6/12

This sounds good, but I'm confused. The calories per ingredient don't add up. The 48 cals for the choc. chips is based on a 6oz pkg, the recipe uses a 12oz. The butter is listed twice at two different calorie counts. I can calculate the calories, but it's misleading if you're not paying attention. - 4/17/11
