Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1 pound lean ground beef
    1 medium onion, chopped
    2/3 cup ketchup
    1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp vinegar (I use wine vinegar)
    1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    1 tsp Dijon mustard
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Sriracha (or other hot sauce)

Directions

Brown meat in frying pan over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat. Once drained, add onion to brown.

Add ketchup, water, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, and hot sauce and cook, uncovered, over medium-low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add up to 1/4 cup more water if mixture seems too dry.

Serve on hamburger buns. (Bun not included in nutrition calculation.)

Wonderful recipe. My family enjoyed these. Even I liked these, and I've never been a fan of sloppy joes. I put the onion in a food processor to hide the fact they were in the recipe for my non onion eaters in the family. Came out great. - 1/30/17

I made these tonight and they were fantastic. My family loved them. 4 stars because it had a little too much onion for my taste. - 3/16/16

    Incredible!
I've tried many sloppy joes recipes which were OK, I LOVED this one!! I used buffalo burger. I also added a mixture of chili sauce, Cookies Bque, and ketchup in the 2/3 cup. I usually like adding Busch's Baked Beans but didn't have any at the time. Will try adding next but this is Great as is. - 10/3/12

I browned some chopped carrots with the onions then added some finely chopped broccoli and the ground meat. Cooked until browned. I then removed the mixture from the pan so I could drain the pan and then put everything in after that. Delicious - thanks for the recipe! - 10/5/11

I cook the ground beef ahead and that way I can cook the onions till they are nicely carmelized and add the beef back in. I also leave out the hot sause (not a fan). This is much better than the packaged stuff. - 7/10/11

This had great flavor, but I made a few changes:
1/2 ground beef, 1/2 ground turkey flavored with cumin, onion powder and meat seasoning. Added diced bell pepper and garlic with the onion. 1 TBS BBQ sauce into mix, no garlic powder. 1 small, diced tomato with 5 min cook time left.

We loved this! Perfect balance of tangy / sweet. My substitutes: 1/2 of onion, 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 tsp dry mustard instead of dijon, and dashes of black pepper, paprika and cumin to meat while cooking. EXCELLENT RECIPE! Thanks! - 2/11/10

I tried this with ground buffalo as it is 97% fat free. Also added red and green bell peppers. Served on a 4" hamburger bun. It was delicious! - 12/5/09
