Ingredients

Bottom & Top:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
pinch salt
Filling:
2 packages (375g chopped pitted dates)
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
Chop dates. Then combine all filling ingredients in a saucepan, bring to simmer over low heat. When the dates start to look pasty and is more of a brown goop, it's done.
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Prepare oat mixture, by adding all ingredients listed above filling. Mix well, soften butter in microwave if needed before mixing. Then use pastry blender or hands to mix coating.
Divide oat mixture in half and press it into the bottom of a greased and floured 13 x 9 pan.
Spread date filling over mixture, use a slightly wet spatula to spread the mixture over oat mixture. Making sure to get the corners.
Then use remaining half of oat mixture and spread it out on top and press down.
Bake for 20 minutes (golden around edges).
Serving Size: Makes 18 bars (cut into four legths across and down)
