Easy Tamale Pie

Introduction

Simple recipe for a tamale casserole. Simple recipe for a tamale casserole.
Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    1 lb ground beef
    1 C minced onion
    4 tsp garlic powder
    2 8-oz can tomato sauce
    1 C skim milk
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    1 15-oz can whole kernal corn
    1 C yellow cornmeal
    2 tsp chili powder
    1 tsp salt

Directions

Cook meat and onion with garlic powder until meat is brown and onion is tender. Stir in tomato sauce, milk, eggs, corn, cornmeal, chili powder, and salt. Pour into 9x13 baking dish. Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cut into 16 squares and serve immediately.

Adjust spices to your taste...I usually omit the salt, reduce the garlic, and add Adobo, cumin, and original Mrs. Dash to taste.

    I added cheese over the top for the last 5 minutes and next time I will try adding some red pepper for a little more spice, but a very good recipe. - 11/24/09

    This is fantastic. It has a great texture and there is so much flavor that I think I added maybe 1/2 tsp. Next time I'll try it with turkey meat and adobo. Thanks! - 1/25/08
