Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

4 apples, fresh (sliced paper thin)
Mix of Splenda and ground cinnamon

Directions

On top of 2 large cookie sheets, use parchment paper or cooling racks (like you'd use for cookies). If using cooling racks, line cookie sheets with aluminum foil.
Preheat the oven to 225 degrees.
Core, then slice 4 apples as paper thin as possible (a mandoline slicer is helpful if you have one).
Spread the apples in a single layer on top of the parchment paper or cooling rack.
Sprinkle lightly with a cinnamon/Splenda mix.
Cook in the oven for 1 hour.
Turn over, sprinkle again with Splenda/cinnamon and bake for another hour until lightly browned.
Store in an air-tight container, such as a zippered sandwich bag.

In response to: "Not at all what I expected... I cooked them for about 1 1/2 hours and they were still soggy":
Well, the recipe said to cook them for an hour and then turn them, and cook them ANOTHER hour...so they were probably soggy because they weren't done.

Finally a snack my kids LOVE that's actually good for them! I used Gala apples so I didn't even need to sweeten them. Thanks for a fantastic recipe! - 10/8/08

These would probably be good with only cinnamon, not sugar. I thought they tasted horrible with the sugar on them, just way too sweet. Apples taste so good on their own, I was sad I had ruined them. - 2/3/11

These chips were so good. I was surprised that you still tasted the apple. I didn't have a mandoline slicer but I noticed the thinner the slices the crunchier the chips. They were delicious! - 5/26/08

ppl come on, quit ragging her on her choice of sugar. You all are big boys and girls and make the changes you feel necessary to make it *your* way. It's not constructive criticism it's being a bully. Ok rand over. - 1/21/18

This recipe is great!! But I actually used Honey Crisp Apples ( they are naturally very sweet) and no splenda just barely sprinkled cinnamon. THey were wonderful!!! - 2/1/08

I dry granny smith apples in my dehydrator..Peel, slice, and put in pineapple juice (Dole in it's own juice). The pineapple gives the apples a great taste and the apple does not oxidize. Great Snack

These were perfect!! I flipped them at 1 hour and then when I took them out they weren't all the way crunchy, so I just upped the temp. to 235 for about 20 extra mins for the thicker ones to get crunchy.I just cut them with a sharpe knife in paper thin cuts.Turned out really good! Will def make again - 1/22/12

I didn't try this - but I thinly slice an apple, sprinkle with splenda/cinnamon mix - but in ziplock to take to work for quick snack. Tastes delicious and apple doesn't brown. - 4/5/09

I don't think I was able to slice the apples thin enough, so I had to bake them longer, but they turned out wonderful! - 9/3/07

Works better if you follow the directions. So many times it seems the recipe is not followed and then there are complaints. Also one person's poison is another's treasure. I use Splenda all the the time since I am diabetic and am grateful to have it available. The apple chips were great. - 5/20/18

I tried the recipe tonight using one apple in case I didn't like them. They were really good. My husband tried them and ate half of the apple chips and wanted more. So I made the recipe twice tonight. I did have a few that were not crisp so I will try the potato peeler like NEWBAKER12 suggested. - 12/5/13

This is my favorite snack minus the splenda. The sweetness of the apple with the cinammon is enough for me. - 4/28/12

absolutly love it! I made these for my family and surprised that they loved them (they usually hate my healthy food). The only thing is they take so long to bake and my parents and I eat them up so fast xD - 3/2/12

These worked really well. I used a cooling rack over the cookie sheet for one batch, and placed the slices directly on wax paper over a cookie sheet for a second batch. The ones on the wax paper turned out crispier, but some stuck to the paper. Either way, they both tasted great! - 1/19/08

I did a dehydrator version. 12 hrs on the fruit setting (about 130F). I’d say 85 percent were crispy and the rest like dried fruit from the store. Both tasty.
No Splenda, cinnamon and clove sprinkled on.

Fruit comes with it's own sugars already there. I microwave apple slices with just cinnamon, so I'll try baking them that way too. I like my new countertop oven. It should handle this task just fine. - 10/24/18

I made these with the very flavorful Pink Lady Apples. I used sugar rather than Splenda, but I think I might omit it next time and use the cinnamon alone (unless I decide to throw in a bit of allspice or something like that!). In any case, they're delicious! - 9/3/18
