Introduction

Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

    Sauce
    1/2 T butter or margarine
    1/2 T flour
    1/4 c milk
    1 bay leaf (remove before serving)
    1/2 oz shredded swiss cheese
    1 T grated parmesan cheese
    salt and pepper

    Sandwich
    2 slices firm bread (french, sour dough, etc
    2 oz thin slices ham
    1/2 oz swiss cheese (1 oz in all with the shredded chesses above.)

Directions

Make sauce by melting butter and stirring in flour. Whisk in milk until smooth. Add bay leaf and cook, stirring until sauce thickens. Stir in cheese, salt and pepper to taste.

Make sandwiches with ham between cheese (divide up slice or use shredded). Spray pan with non-stick spray and also the outside of the sandwich and grill until browned on both sides. Put sandwich in a shallow baking dish and top each with the white sauce. Broil until sauce is golden brown and cheese is melted through. Cut and serve.

    Deeeeee-licious! Used sourdough bread. I can only imagine a good French bread would be as good. And just changing things up, maybe a gruyere cheese instead of swiss. Really good. - 2/8/21
