Introduction

I first made this 13 years ago for our family's vacation in Duck, SC. It was delicious and ages 5 to 43 ate it up! I've tried others since, but they aren't as good as this delicious dish. The make ahead feature works wonderfully as the hub of a holiday brunch! I first made this 13 years ago for our family's vacation in Duck, SC. It was delicious and ages 5 to 43 ate it up! Ingredients

    1 stick butter
    1 cup milk
1 heaping cup brown sugar (do not pack)
1 teaspoon cinnamon, plus cinnamon to sprinkle
    1 loaf French bread
    5 eggs
maple syrup (optional -- it is delicious with or without syrup)

Directions

Melt butter, sugar and cinnamon together on stove. Pour into jelly roll pan. Beat eggs and milk and brush on both sides of bread (soak each piece generously), then place each slice side down on the butter/sugar/cinnamon mixture already on the pan. Sprinkle the top side of bread with cinnamon. Cover with foil, place in refrigerator and let stand overnight. The next morning, bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
