Ingredients

25g butter
175g bread, sliced (approx 6 slices)
115g raisins/sultanas
40g caster sugar
pinch nutmeg
3 eggs
600ml semi-skimmed milk
Directions
Butter the bread and cut diagonally into 4 triangles. arrange the bread in layers in a greased deep tin with the crusts to the bottom and the point of the triangle uppermost. Sprinkle the raisins, sugar and nutmeg among the bread layers as you go.
Beat the eggs and mix with the milk then pour the custard mixture through a sieve over the bread. Allow to stand for 20-30 minutes for the custard to soak into the bread.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
Bake the pudding in the preheated oven until the custard is set but wobbly and the top is beginning to brown and crisp, about 25 minutes.
