Introduction
This is a great recipe for a party because it's easy to serve and can be kept warm for a long time on the stove or in a crock pot. I didn't include the sandwich rolls in the ingredients because nutrition facts on bread are so varied. I suggest you calculate your calories for the bread roll separately for the sake of accuracy. Ingredients
-
1.25 lb 93% lean ground turkey
1/2 C seasoned breadcrumbs
1 egg
1/2 C onion, finely chopped
salt and pepper to taste
3 C pasta sauce
1/4 C balsamic vinegar
1/2 C red wine
1t garlic powder
1t italian seasoning
1t sugar
3 oz. mozzerella cheese, shredded
6 sandwich rolls of your choice
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 and prepare a large cookie sheet by greasing or lining it with parchment. In a large bowl, mix together turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, and salt and pepper until well combined. Make 24 meatballs and place on cookie sheet. Bake meatballs in the oven for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the pasta sauce in a large skillet and add balsamic vinegar, red wine, garlic powder, italian seasoning, and sugar. When meatballs are done, transfer them to the sauce and let simmer for 30 minutes or hold the entire mixture in the crock pot on warm. Serve 4 meatballs with a little sauce on each sandwich roll and top with 2 T mozzerella.
