We love clam chowder and haven't had it in a long time because of the high calories. So happy to find this recipe. Thanks for submitting it. I also served it with spicy oyster crackers (yes it adds quite a bit calories but oh so yummy)
I was really worried about a "healthy" or "light" version of clam chowder. I was REALLY surprised at how yummy it was, the flavors were perfect and it was really filling and delicious and best of all UNDER 200 calories! Even the kids gobbled it up!
Made this chowder on the weekend and received outstanding reviews! It's a keeper. My boyfriend ate 5 bowls the first night!! Instead of bacon, I used bacon-flavoured turkey strips and still had the flavour less the extra fat. I also used low-fat half 'n half, too.
The flavor was very good! It was however very thin. I will add some corn starch and extra clams next time, and could use a tiny salt. But I will make again, it was great. loved that the servings were so low cal
Deeeeelicious!!! Thanks for the ideas on using fat-free milk and half and half. A neighbor smelled the aromas and knocked on my door to ask what kind of cuisine was I cooking. I told her I decided to have a soup and salad night. LOL!
Gotta try this, what with the great reviews. Hubby loves clam chowder and he is not a soup lover, and my own recipe is DELICIOUS, but HIGH in calories.
I made the chowder tonight and it was excellent. I added carrots and used fat free milk and fat free half and half because that's what I had on hand. I didn't have thyme so I substituted basil. Anyways I will make this again. Loved it.
And I do love my clam chowder. Lower calories, same great taste--what's not to love?!
THANKS FOR THIS RECIPE. IT SOUNDS SO DELICIOUS AND LOWER IN CALORIES.
Can't wait to try this as my husband used to rave about my clam chowder and I stopped making it because of all the calories.
this soup was really really good. it was perfect for the cold snowy days we've been having lately! and surprisingly light on the calories.
I can't believe a cup has under 200 calories. It was sooo good! I will definitely make this again!
very good. i used skim milk and no fat half-and-half to try and cut back on some fat and calories. still turned out fantastic. i also added mushrooms and more garlic, just because i love them.
I made a recipe VERY similar to this one and it turned out really good! It called for turkey bacon which helped to keep down the fat.
