Actually you can use light or fat free sour cream.....the main reason I would use it is to make more guac w/ less avocados because they are usually so expensive. - 7/21/08

I add low fat plain yoghurt instead of sour cream, a tablespoon of raw onion (minced) and a clove of garlic (minced), some cilantro and 1/2 a fresh green chili/jalapeno. I blend this and stir in about1/4 tomato (diced) for some additional colour and texture. Lower cal/fat and SOOOOO delicious - 7/15/08

I love Guac! I found a way to cut calories is to add pureed frozen green peas, thawed (sounds weird I know). You have to taste it a bit (no matter what you add) to get the taste just right, but you get more guac for less fat & calories!

Is this juice from 1/4th of a lime or 1/4th of a cup?
I've never made it adding sour cream - I usually just add tomatoes and lime. Why not greek yogurt instead of sour cream anyhow?

Sorry, but guacamole doesn't have, or need, sour cream. Should have diced avocados, chopped cilantro, seeded and diced tomatoes, minced garlic, minced red onion, fresh lime juice, salt (to taste), and minced jalapeno (optional). - 7/20/08

Good on tomatoes, good on sandwiches instead of mayo. Would be good on taco salad. - 7/20/08

I make mine with low-fat sour cream and salsa with a little cumin & sometimes some cilantro (could use fat free sour cream if you like the taste-- personally, I'll take the cal & fat for flavor) - 7/15/08

I'm a guac addict and this sounds great! I might add 2 tlbs. (or more!) of salsa to give it a kick though. Call it my Latin blood! - 7/15/08

I agree with most everyone - although it sounds good and I LOVE guac, I think leaving out the sour cream would be better for you. - 7/15/08

    Bad
I agree with many posters - this is not exactly guacamole (guac has tomatoes and garlic - jalapenos are optional; no sour cream), and not *exactly* "healthy". Serves 2?! I've never seen anywhere that it's recommend that a whole avocado is a serving. This should serve 4, maybe 6. - 7/15/08

Instead of sour cream - add some salsa (homemade or from a jar). You won't lose any taste, get any extra calories/fat, and it really tastes GOOD! - 7/15/08

    why is this healthy?
i buy avacadoes from shwanns. they are halved and filled w/ seasoning so all you have to do is thaw and mash them up in a bowl. very tasty and HEALTHY.

This isn't guac this is a avocado dip, real gauc is made with jalepeno pepper, garlic, onion, tomato, garlic powder, cumin, salt, papper, and some lime juice! - 7/15/08

    O.K.

For what it's worth, I make my guacamole with 1 Avocado, juice of one lime, and I press a lot of garlic to go into it. So for that, it's garlic 'to taste.' I don't see the need for sour cream, though I have enjoyed guac made that way. Try it without it, plus some garlic added and see what you think! - 7/15/08

    O.K.
Skip the sour cream and add in some other seasonings and then you're talking. Given the addition of the sour cream, not sure why Spark chose to feature this recipe. Not very healthy. - 7/15/08

There's no reason to add the sour cream which adds unneeded calories & fat. The avocados are creamy enough on their own. Guacamole is best with mashed avocados (very good for you despite being high in calories), chopped onions, jalapenos and tomatoes, some lime juice and salt. - 7/15/08

WOW...I am a little surprised that this recipe is being shared - I know the avocado fat is the good kind, but seriously - if you actually ate one whole serving of this in Weight Watchers you would burn TEN points - wow. That doesn't even count your dippers. - 7/15/08

This is much like mine, except I also add garlic salt and smash with a fork for a more chunky texture. - 7/15/08

I add 2 finely minced garlic cloves, a dash of chili powder, one small chopped yellow onion, 1/4 tsp. crushed dried cilantro, a pinch on crushed cumin, 2 strips of chopped jalapeno peppers, 2 chopped plum tomatoes, 1 Tbsp. lime juice, and use the sour cream as a garnish...coarsely mash avocadoes. - 7/15/08

Sounds yummy! I think I would try with plain yogurt to up the protein and reduce the fat. and where I come from (AZ), guac has to have tomatoes!! - 7/15/08
