i did a little makeover to this one and really liked the results. i used plain yogurt instead of vanilla, pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon, and i omitted the ice (personal preference). i also added a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder. it was super tasty. i will definitely make it again! - 11/9/11

I added a scoop of protein powder and benefiber and nutmeg and ginger and allspice and omitted the apple for 1/4 cup light apple juice. It tasted like pumpkin pie. - 6/4/11

I was able to drink it but I felt the apple was a little over powering. I was hoping for a sweet pumpkin pie flavor and got more of an applesauce flavored with pumpkin thing. I wouldn't make this one again. If I did I would leave out the apple and add in more banana. - 1/28/11

I don't really care for banana in smoothies, and I don't see an apple listed as an ingredient so I assume this recipe is a makeover. I have been using my own recipe for a while now. 1 C. Kefir, 1/2 C. pumpkin, 1 scoop Vanilla whey, 2 Tbsp ground flax, vanilla extract, cinnamon, brown sugar to taste. - 7/29/15

Very good. I decided to try this as I had leftover pumpkin puree. I do have to admit that I wasn't so sure about the addition of the apple but was pleasantly surprised. Very fresh tasting and filling. - 11/27/11

I haven't tried this smoothie recipe yet, but it loks like something I would like. I have to admit I never really thought of apple as combining with those other flavors in a smoothie :) I'll come back and rate this one after I've actually made it - 11/7/11

I made it with plain 0% Greek yogurt. It was too thick for my Vitamix so I added 1 cup of almond milk and I doubled the pumpkin pie spice. Next time I will make it with almond milk, and skip the ice so it is easier to mix. - 5/6/21

This was good, but I didn't get the pumpkin pie "taste" - hubby says he thinks the banana is the culprit. But, I like the smoothie w/o the pp expectation. Will try w/sugar free yogurt next time. No apple listed in my online recipe. - 11/8/18

I am out of bananas today, but I'm DEFINITELY going to try this. Pumpkin is SO NUTRITIOUS and soothing for the digestion. I wanted to make pumpkin pie for tradition's sake, but I just gag at the thought of the ingredients that go into the crust! lol This drink can tweaked for preferences!

I also did a makeover. First of all the recipe I read did not have an apple. I used plain Greek yogurt and added half a date for some sweetness. I didn't add ice but about .5 cup cold unsweetened almond milk. It was very good! - 10/5/15

I love almost all things pumpkin....but this!!!! I have read that your should cook the puree for a little while for better flavor so I did but the taste of the puree was still overpowering even after doubling the amount of spice. YUCK- I threw it away :( - 7/29/15

Was the recipe modified from the original? I, too, saw no mention of the apple, and the carb and sugar count was less than in some comments. It's still pretty high but a little more reasonable than with the apple! - 7/29/15

I was making a "pumpkin" pie with butternut squash, and decided to use some of the leftover squash in this. Did not have yogurt, so used leftover fat free evaporated milk. Added the banana and spices, a little Splenda. It was great! Will get some greek yogurt tomorrow and try it with that. Thanks - 11/16/13

I made this with regular vanilla yogurt since I can't seem to have Greek yogurt. I loved it, I will be making it again. It didn't have a super sweet taste like a pie would but I enjoyed the light natural flavor it had. - 11/11/13

I just made this today, before I saw this recipe. I used 100 calorie greek yogurt and I also added a cup of Almond Breeze to it. I used a full cup, but next time I am going to only use a half a cup. It was really good. Mine had 238 calories and 16 grams of protein. - 10/6/13

Very tasty! I didn't have an apple so I used a half cup of blackberries instead. Very fresh fruity taste that way, but berries overpowered the pumpkin too much, will have to try again with an apple! Carb count is 1/3 of my daily recommended, but substitutions can be made. Or drink half and save rest - 3/6/12

I use Tofu instead of Yogurt. It takes on the flavor of whatever you are making. So I'll try, but with many substitutes listed and leaving out apple and banana. - 12/28/11

I was just not impressed with this recipe at all. I followed it exactly as directed. It was not sweet at all, even with a very ripe banana. I expected it to taste more like pumpkin, but the apple really changed it. I don't think I'll make it again. - 11/8/11

Yes - I've printed this out, and already noted my amendments! Such as, I'll need to buy pumpkin (or some other squash) and cook it ready to puree. Some lime juice. I'll omit the cinnamon. I'll use my Greek yogurt. And I'll leave my banana to eat for my breakfast. DH diabetic, so won't take this. - 11/8/11

Think I made to many changes to be able to rate this recipe. Froze the banana & pumpkin, used plain LF greek yogurt, omitted ice and added a little apple juice & almond milk as it was blending, topped it with fresh grated nutmeg & cinnamon. Half way through drinking, added a little agave for sweet. - 11/7/11

I would love to try this, but being diabetic, it's too high in carbs. I may try it with the apple and no banana, and swith it to see which way I prefer. I like the idea of adding protein powder or nuts too! - 11/7/11

I also plan on adding a scoop of Any Whey protein powder to this for added protein. Great suggestion on the added spices. Cannot wait to give this a try tomorrow! - 11/7/11
