Introduction

Guacamole or sour cream? Sour cream or guacamole? Why choose? My avocado "cream" combines the flavor of both--with a boost of protein! Guacamole or sour cream? Sour cream or guacamole? Why choose? My avocado "cream" combines the flavor of both--with a boost of protein!
Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

    1 ripe avocado, diced
    1/2 cup Greek yogurt
    2 limes, zested and juiced

Tips

A great way to cut fat but keep creaminess is to swap Greek yogurt for sour cream in all your recipes!
I love to spice this up with everything from chopped garlic and red onion to cilantro and cumin.

Feel free to spice this up with chopped jalapenos, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes or cilantro.

Directions

Puree all ingredients in a food processor or mash together with a fork. Serve immediately.

If you make this ahead of time, press plastic wrap onto the surface of the cream and stir before serving.

Refrigerate up to 2 days, but the top will oxidize and turn brown. Scrape off the top layer or stir well.

Serving Size: Makes 1 1/4 cup; 2 tablespoons each serving

I am always surprised by the ridiculous comments & questions people put on recipe section;serving size 2 tbs read the recipe. Cream;a title because it is creamy ? mark ? listed as a tongue & cheek comparison come on folk, think before commenting, be respectful no mistake was made at all! - 10/5/12

Another way to stretch out the fat calories and also enjoy a bigger serving is to puree a can of drained english peas and mix in. Addition of jalapeno and cilantro and diced green onion boosts the flavor. - 6/3/12

I love avocado! Prevent oxidation (browning) by squirting some lime juice over the surface before laying plastic wrap on the surface to eliminate air contact. Any citrus will do the trick. - 7/5/12

I added chili powder, jalapeno, onion, and garlic powder. I'll use 1/2 a lime in the future....the tangyness (sp?) from the greek yogurt and the limes was a but much for me. I prefer a creamier avocado taste. But I will def make again! - 7/12/12

Excellent substitute, Greek yogurt for sour cream. I'm still changing over my fridge to a healthier one, so to use up my tub of sour cream I mixed 1/2 sour cream with 1/2 Greek yogurt. The overall flavor/creaminess didn't suffer at all. Nice snack! - 7/5/12

Started out with making it as directed. After one taste, I was back to the fridge to add a touch of salsa, garlic and onion powder to it. That really helped to finish the flavor for me. - 8/8/13

I really like this a lot. Used it as a condiment for southwestern chicken dish I made. Excellent. The avocado and lime added just the right amount of extra flavor. - 6/7/13

Excellent recipe! I added some peeled and seeded cucumber with the yogurt and avocado. Salsa herbs and spices added in make this a perfect dip for veggies or pita chips. - 8/8/13

OH this was fabulous! I didn't have Greek yogurt, so I did half regular yogurt and half cottage cheese - both had just the right amount of tanginess, and the cottage cheese added some of the extra body and protein that the Greek yogurt would have otherwise provided. Yummy yummy! - 10/17/15

Fast and easy... I only had lemons but it still tasted great, I added black pepper, the onion and garlic powder and topped my burger with the blessed green mess that came out of my bullet....yummy. Next time I'll add the bell peppers and maybe even some hot sauce. Thanks for sharing - 2/9/15

I first want to say I hate avocado but decided to give this recipe a shot. This recipe was AMAZING and easy to make. I used it on tacos and taco salad. This is my new favorite. - 8/5/14

Thank you. I never use cream but fat free Greek yoghurt in everything that requires creaminess, even when making a totally delicious carbonara pasta. Try Eton Mess with FFGY instead of cream. Heavenly! - 7/29/14

Didn't have yogurt but did have sm curd cottage cheese and used that instead. Only used about 1/4 of a lemon (no lime), not for flavor but to keep it nice and green. Added onion, jalapeno, garlic powder and chili powder for pizzazz. WAS delicious - its all gone!

I made this recipe and I found it to be quite delicious! I was unsure at first, but it worked out great! I added cilantro, roasted green chili, jalepeno powder, and a touch of garlic salt. It was a hit for us and I am sure I will be making this more often! Thank you for the great recipe! - 8/13/13

I've never actually eaten avocado before so this was my introduction. I only used the juice of half a lime and I added garlic and onion powders. I think you could add just about anything healthy and you would still have a healthy, flavourful dip. - 8/10/13

Nice to see folks thinking recipes are ideas you can add to make your own. salsa, garlic anything to spice it up.. I also replace cream cheese with greek yogurt. No one has noticed as of yet... - 8/8/13

Fan of the FUN FOOD! AND it's a low level snack. Thanks for sharing. This is going with the Tuna on toast quick meal list because I use my really ripe avocados mashed with a little OO & salt & pepper as mayo (learned that right here from one of you wonderful Sparkers. : ) - 8/8/13

I bought avocados yesterday to hopefully make some guac for dinner on sunday (if they ripen enough)... I think I'll make this instead for something a bit different! With homemade tortilla chips this will hit the mark! - 8/8/13

I love guacamole, but found that I actually enjoy it more with half lemon, half lime rather than all lime juice. I like the idea of adding Greek yogurt. If you like it spicy and don't have time or ingredients to add the boosters, pouring in some salsa works well. Thanks! - 8/8/13
