Ingredients

    1 egg, beaten
    1/4 cup nonfat milk
    1/4 cup finely chopped onion
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp pepper
    1 lb. lean ground beef
    1 cup cooked brown rice
    8 oz. can tomato sauce
    1 Tbsp. brown sugar
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    1 tsp. Wocestershire sauce
    8-12 large cabbage leaves

Directions

Immerse cabbage leaves in boiling water for about 5 minutes or until limp. Drain. Combine egg, milk, onions, salt, pepper, beef, and rice. Place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in center of each leaf. Fold in sides and roll ends over meat. Place in slow cooker. Combine tomato sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, and worcestershire sauce. Pour over the cabbage rolls. (I sometimes double the tomato sauce because we like ours saucy.) cover and cook on low for 7-9 hours. This makes between 8-12 rolls. The nutrional info is for 10 servings.

This recipe of stuffed cabbage is one of the best I have ever made. I like a lot of sauce so I tripled it. It was just enough for me. I used wild rice and Splenda brown sugar. - 2/5/09

Tried it with ground turkey instead of beef. I did not have time for the slow cooker, so I put them in the oven. They were good the first night. They were awesome as leftovers while they lasted. Next time I will make them in the slower cooker, and I will make a double batch! - 1/12/10

Really yummy, traditional tastin rolls. I doubled the sauce. Lots of prep is the downside but well worth it. Boyfriend really enjoyed as well. Will make again. Thanks! - 1/26/14

This was delicious! I put triple the tomato sauce because I like a lot of sauce. I also used 1/2c of onion instead of 1/4, and I omitted the brown sugar. My only disappointment was that the head of cabbage was not big enough to double the recipe! :) - 10/15/12

This was pretty good, I used Venison and added a can of tomatoes and some garlic to the sauce. Next time I won't cook the rice all the way, after precooking the rice then it cooking 7 hours in the crockpot it was pretty mushy! But none-the less it was a good, nice for something different! - 1/13/11

These were a family pleaser! We had to stop ourselves from eating too many because we were so stuffed! I will make these again! By the way, I baked them instead of the slow cooker and it worked out perfectly! 350 degrees for 1 hour! Thanks! - 2/24/10

My first attempt at cabbage rolls and the recipe was easy and delicious! I used red cabbage, a 14 oz. can of tomato sauce and Splenda brown sugar. Will definitely make again, but in the meantime I encourage someone to try the recipe without any sugar at all -- it doesn't seem necessary! - 2/21/10
