I just checked some cake mixes I had in the cupboard. They all say 170 cal per serving (just the mix alone) with 12 servings per box. The nutritional info of 428 cal per 1 serving is incorrect. If you were to eat the entire cake assuming it was 1 serving, you have 2040 cal. Don't be fooled. ;) - 3/28/07

I just made this with white cake and Peach flavored sparkling water (no calories, no sugar, etc.). I added a little fresh fruit as well (one slice of peach per cupcake) and it was completely delicious. - 6/20/11

The reason the cals are so LOW is because you dont add the eggs and the oil. When you look on the box, the # of cals that it will tell you are in each serving is IF you used the eggs and oil. So yes, this calorie count is correct. - 3/20/09

These cakes are awesome and easy. You can make them in the microwave Cook 8 mins in your tupperware container..it may look doughy in the middle but it finishes cooking once taken out, don't overcook. The serving size should be 12 which makes the calories @105 without toppings...try it warm. - 1/5/08

Not a fan - tried it with Diet Pepsi and Pillsbury Reduced Sugar Devil's Food cake mix. Cake was very moist, but I just didn't like the taste. The combination of chocolate and cola just wasn't for me, I guess. - 11/17/07

Used to have this all the time. It is a hit with weight watchers people. I saw some concern over the calories, but be assured it is low calorie. If portioned correctly is is under 100 calories a slice. Can't beat taht! It taste great too. Of course you can leave out the cool whip to save some. - 4/22/07

Really good! My son didn't believe me that it was a cake mix and Diet Pepsi. I tried a Devil's Food cake mix and Diet Pepsi and did frost it. I think I will try a yellow or white cake next with clear soda and skip the frosting...we really enjoyed this cake! - 4/15/07

I made a lemon cake using lemon and lime soda. It was fantastic. I liked it enough to make it for a church group and it disappeared quickly. They did not know that it was low calorie. - 5/22/12

How much soda? 12 oz? I made something similar to this with devil's food, diet coke, and sugar free cherry pie filling...like a dump cake...everyone loved it and no one knew it was "healthy". Add a little light or sugar-free cool whip and you really feel like you are cheating. - 10/14/11

The box usually shows the calories with and without the extra ingredients. Without eggs and oil is 180 calories per serving. WITH eggs and oil the cake would be 270 calories per serving. Just read your box when you make the cake. - 5/8/09

even if you cut the cake into 24 slices , it would be 85 cal.which it not bad. you wouldnt want to eat the whole cake anyway right? It is very good. Anyway that is what i did. 24 slices and half the cal. There is no way
the cal. count could be 400 and something for the whole cake.

@sonjamaria - please please please read your labels before posting about Aspartame and diet sodas - not all diet sodas contain it - Diet Rite, for one, uses sucralose (Splenda) - a totally different sweetener - 8/3/11

Sorry, but you cannot possibly list this as a healthy recipe. Diet sodas contain Aspartame which contains Methanol. Methanol transforms into the poison Formaldehyde when heated over 86F. Please do not use diet sodas for cooking!!! - 11/30/10

First, calorie count IS correct because a serving of dry mix is 1/2 the box. Second, I used chocolate cake mix & 10 oz. diet dr. pepper and sprinkled cinnamon/sugar on top (eliminating the need for cool whip). It was good, but I still worry about baking with Aspartame. - 3/2/10

I make this a lot and the texture is better if you only use 10 oz. of pop - not the whole can (I like Diet cherry coke or Diet cherry Dr. Pepper with devil's food cake) and add 1 or 2 beaten egg whites. Cut cake in small pieces and serve in parfait with small amounts of diet pudding and cool whip. - 3/13/07
